At every turn and in every corner and in every separate room, there were more and more and more of the same, and not even different. It seems to go on forever and ever and ever in every corner and certainly in every nook and cranny. I parked and entered, and was astounded by the lights and noises and the tremendous abundance of slot machines and gambling stations. Anyway, I found this place as the only action place at 7 PM in the town. However, that’s Charleston and this is Charles Town - that’s embarrassing for the self-styled geography whiz that I consider myself to be. After finishing my long day of hiking at the fantastic Harpers Ferry National Historical Park (read my review), I decided to visit what I thought was the nearby capital city of West Virginia.
PROS * Large casino area * Stunning number of many hundreds of individual machines and dozens of tables * Noisy and destabilizing * Wide wide carpeted brightly lit area * Many many side areas * Cafeteria food * Interesting horse racing (and betting) * See, watch, observe meet, and interact with real local people, and not only other tourists or those involved in service in the tourist industry * Free multi level parking garage CONS * Loud bright and noisy- quite a surprise and distress to the eyes and ears “I VISITED THIS PLACE”… … as a very, very pleasant surprise for me, because I hadn’t planned on coming here – I didn’t even know that the place existed.
